Svea Mausolf is an artist and writer. She gained recognition through her Instagram account @Sveamaus, where she is celebrated as a “meme queen.” Mausolf grew up in Frankfurt (Oder), dropped out of an art program at a university in Essen, and now lives in Cologne. On Instagram, she creates image-text compositions whose tragicomic poetics touch people’s hearts. A Sveamaus meme triggers all the wounds of the human soul at once.
Image (novel) is a dark, vicious satire of a brutalized society in which moral boundaries have long been crossed. The novel’s suspenseful narrative oscillates between black humor, grotesque exaggeration, and harsh reality. In the end, one question remains unanswered: Who is the real monster here? Svea Mausolf looks into the dark corners of society, illuminating its abysses and devoting herself passionately to disgust and to all the unsympathetic traits of people in late capitalism that we so readily prefer to repress.
